Anything Goes

Another sell-out success!

A "Great Evening of Enjoyment"
Petersfield Post

Our annual production of Cole Porter's Anything Goes, presented at Havant Arts Centre from 4th to 7th June, was another sell-out success, which the Petersfield Post described as a "Great evening of enjoyment".

Pictures from the show are now available. Click here to see a selection of pictures from the show and read the Petersfield Post's glowing review.

Henry Higgins, an arrogant, irascible professor of phonetics, boasts to new acquaintance and fellow linguist, Colonel Pickering, that he can train any woman to speak so well that he could pass her off as a duchess - even Eliza Doolittle, a poor girl with a decidedly Cockney accent, whom he has just encountered selling flowers on the street. Overhearing this, Eliza finds her way to the professor's house and offers to pay for elocution lessons so that she can get a job in a flower shop. Pickering is intrigued by Higgins's boast and wagers that he cannot make good on his claim; Higgins takes on the challenge and begins an intensive make-over program for Eliza's speech, manners and dress.

Murder Mystery Evening

On Saturday November 1st, the scene was set at the Southwick D-Day Memorial Hall for another of our very popular Murder Mystery dinners, this time entitled "He's Behind You" or "Murder in Pantoland".

As you can guess from the title, we were to witness the collision of numerous characters from several popular pantomimes, ending with poor old Widow Twankey being done to death in front of our very eyes (oh, yes she was!). All of the characters had a motive but who dun it??

We were invited to quiz the characters about their motives and whereabouts as they came round serving us a delicious dinner.

In the end, three tables managed to deduce that the dreadful deed was done by Wizabella, the wicked witch (Samantha Spivey).

New Rehearsal Venue

Back in April, we bade a fond farewell to the Purbrook Methodist Church hall, which has been our rehearsal venue for more years than I care to remember. Sadly the church and associated buildings are to be demolished and replaced by a housing development. Since then we have been lodging temporarily at the Paulsgrove Community Centre, to whom we are most grateful for coming to our rescue.

However, we now have a permanent home: St Faith's Church Hall in Havant. It is a huge barn of a place offering us plenty of space for rehearsals. The address is:
